User Agreement and Waiver of Liability
The Columbia Basin PIT Tag Information System (PTAGIS) Database and Web Portal have been developed by the Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC) with funding from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) to satisfy the objectives of the Columbia Basin Fish and Wildlife Program. PSMFC is committed to ensuring that the information and data on this site are accessible to all users.
Information and data on the PTAGIS Web Portal are in the public domain, and the PTAGIS database contains data submitted by a multitude of contributors with potentially conflicting definitions. Although data submitted by contributors are validated to conform to data type and content specifications, it is possible that contributions may contain coding errors. Regardless of the source, it is possible that the data in PTAGIS may be unverified and/or incomplete. Despite potential ambiguities, and with these caveats in mind, the database provides a “real time template” that is available to both the public and natural resource agencies for independent research and adaptive management.
Data User
It is the responsibility of the Data User to contact the individual Tag Data Coordinator(s) to ascertain the availability and veracity of their respective tagging, release and/or recovery data. The Data User is expected to contact the appropriate Tag Data Coordinator(s) prior to citing these data in any literature for other than internal agency distribution (both reviewed and non-reviewed documents). This will provide verification and context for data derived from the PTAGIS database. Securing appropriate permissions, in writing, prior to submission of data for publication will help to ensure the appropriate and ethical use of data. Initiating contact with Tag Data Coordinator(s) will provide Data Users the opportunity to arrange appropriate acknowledgements, citations and/or authorships.

Data Contributors
Data Contributors should be clearly informed [by whom?] that their submissions to the PTAGIS database are immediately available for use by researchers, resource managers, and the public for independent and unpublished work. Submission by the Tag Data Coordinator identifies him or her self as the initial contact for Data Users to verify and provide context for data. The Tag Data Coordinator can expect to be contacted by Data Users prior to data use in any literature for other than internal distribution (both reviewed and non-reviewed documents) in order to:
- Provide verification and context for the data.
- Secure appropriate permissions (in writing) prior to submission of the data for publication.
- Arrange appropriate acknowledgments, citations and/or authorships.

Unlimited rights for use, reproduction, and disclosures are granted to the User subject to the following provisions:
Copyright
Text and data located on the PTAGIS Web Portal were either: 1) prepared by employees of PSMFC as part of their official duties and therefore are not subject to copyright; or 2) prepared under contracts that give PSMFC the right to place the text or data into the public domain.
Liability
For documents, data and software available from this server, PSMFC does not warrant or assume any legal liability or responsibility for the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any information, apparatus, product or process disclosed. The User acknowledges that neither PSMFC nor BPA assumes liability for the use of this database, nor will PSMFC or BPA reimburse the User for its liability to third persons with respect to loss resulting in any way from the use of data from PTAGIS.
Endorsement
PSMFC in general, and the PTAGIS Project specificially, does not endorse any commercial products, processes or services for financial remuneration. However, PTAGIS may recommend certain products or services because they are required by our users and or data contributors.

PSMFC is not responsible for the availability or content of these external sites, nor does PSMFC endorse, warrant or guarantee the products, services or information described or offered at these other Internet sites. It is the responsibility of the user to examine the copyright and licensing restrictions of linked pages and to secure all necessary permission. Users cannot assume that the external sites will abide by the same provisions as the PSMFC Data License Agreement.
