PIT Tag Interrogation Site Details

JDJ - John Day Dam Juvenile Bypass System

The JDJ interrogation site has been in operation since 1992, and in its current location since 1998. From 1992 through 1997 interrogation activity was limited to PIT-tagged fish collected as part of the FPC's SMP sample from one or two of the three gatewells at Turbine #3. The juvenile bypass and sampling facility was constructed in April 1998 and Separation by Code (SbyC) capabilities were added to the site. The current (since 1998) set of antenna groups (monitors) and associated antenna (coil) IDs is described below.

Full Flow Bypass (01-04)
Installed in March 2007. This antenna group interrogates all PIT-tagged fish in the primary bypass system. If the facility is operating in primary bypass mode, this is the only antenna group fish pass through.
SbyC Separator Gate (A1-A4)
This antenna group interrogates PIT-tagged fish collected from the smolt separator, and can trigger an SbyC diversion at a 3-way rotating gate. By default, fish pass through the gate and return to the river through the River Exit antenna group. During a facility sub-sample, fish are routed to the facility sample tank through the Sample Room antenna group. If the gate is triggered for a target SbyC tag, the tagged fish is diverted to the SbyC Gate.
River Exit (81-84)
This antenna group interrogates PIT-tagged fish that pass through the 3-way gate and return directly to the river.
Sample Room (51-54)
This antenna group interrogates PIT-tagged fish that are collected as part of a facility sub-sample.
SbyC Gate (C1-C4)
Installed in 1999. This antenna group interrogates PIT-tagged fish diverted at the 3-way gate and triggers a 2-way rotating gate that further separates SbyC target fish into the East or West SbyC holding tanks.
SbyC East Tank (E1-E2)
Installed in 1999. This antenna group interrogates PIT-tagged fish that are diverted into the East SbyC holding tank.
SbyC West Tank (F1-F2)
Installed in 1999. This antenna group interrogates PIT-tagged fish that are diverted into the West SbyC holding tank.
Sample/SbyC Exit (91-94)
This antenna group interrogates PIT-tagged fish that are released from the sub-sample or SbyC recovery tanks and returned to the river.
Adult Fish Return (61-62)
Installed in March 2005. This antenna group interrogates PIT-tagged fish that pass over the smolt separator and are returned to the river.
