Roles
From PTAGISWiki
Presented here for convenience are definitions of roles exercised by participants in the PTAGIS project. For programmatic use, these and many additional roles are defined in the ptagis_domain and domain_enumeration tables of the ptagis3 database. Specifically, ptagis_domain defines enum_person_role as a list of the "roles that a person can exercise with respect to the PTAGIS Project or with respect to a participating project". Within the domain_enumeration table, over a dozen enum_person_role entries exist.
As of this writing, only TDS (Tag Distribution System) makes use of these entries - for example, to identify a user as a 'Tag Requester' or a 'Tag Receiver', or as a 'TDS Administrator' (see below). However, plans call for widespread use of this table in the near future; for example, to:
- establish role-based user access to system functionalities
- assign custodial responsibility for project-specific data sets, such as collections of tagging files
- identify technical personnel responsible for maintaining the PIT-tag interrogation equipment at a given geographic location
As may be seen in the PPO (Person-Project-Organization) schema, any number of roles may be associated with an individual, through entries in the project_activity_role table. Please refer to this document for more information.
