Scope

The scope of this SOP is limited to the connectivity to the PLC via DH-485 and does not cover the intricate details of programming the PLC, nor the individual graphics of the HMI. The reader of this SOP should be versed in PLC programming and understand the nature of data tables and communications.

Responsibilities

PSMFC Kennewick staff is responsible for deploying and interfacing HMI's at various site locations to provide the operators at said sites the ability to manipulate certain parameters in the site PLC.

Procedure

Cabling

  1. Connect 24 VDC and ground to the HMI.
  2. Connect a USB programming cable.
  3. Connect a custom made DH-485/RS-485 cable between the Red Lion device and an Allen Bradley AIC card.

  2. Follow the wizard.
    1. If using XP you may encounter a 'G3 Loader has not passed Windows Logo testing...ect'. Continue anyway.
    2. You may have to go through this exercise twice.
  3. Open the Crimson 2.0
  4. Select File and New
  5. Choose the HMI you are trying to connect.
  6. Double click on Communications.
  7. From the Communications window click on the RS-485 Comms Port.
  8. To the right, three sets of fields will appear. Driver Selection, Driver Settings and Port Settings.
    1. Select Allen Bradley DH485 Master for the Driver
    2. Set the Station Number of Terminal to a Node number that doesn't conflict with any of the nodes that will be on the DH-485 network.
      1. Example: If the last node on the network is an A-B PV600 that is assigned node 5 then make the Red Lion 6.
    3. Make sure you set the Highest Station on Network to the highest node number.
    4. Set the Port Settings fields to the following
      1. Baud Rate = 19200
      2. Data Bits = Eight
      3. Stop Bits = One
      4. Parity = Even
