Objective
This procedure will define the steps necessary to correct and or remove multiple network connections during an initial installation or other wize. This issue has only been observed on Windows Vista during the initial installation at an interrogation site
Problem Description
When installing a new Vista box on a new network, one may have problems browsing the network. The network and sharing center within Control Panel will display 2 or indicate "Multiple Networks" in which the primary is "Local Area Network" Given this configuration, the computer will not be able to access the web and or submit data files.
Responsibilities
The responsibility to correct the described problem will be on the technician that is doing the install.
Procedure
Step 1
Delete Network Adapter
- Open control panel and navigate to "Networking and Sharing Center".
- In the left pane of this window, click on "Manage Network Connections".
- If two connections are observed, then procede to step 4 in this section.
- Close out of "Network and Sharing Center".
- Open Control Panel and navigate to "Device Manager".
- Then click on "Network Adapters".
- Right Click on the Network Adapter device. (This should be the Intel 82566DM-2 Gigibit Network Connection) then choose to "UnInstall" and check the box next to "Delete the driver for this device".
- Then Click "Start" "Restart the Computer"
- When the system reboots, the network adapter will be located and Vista will reinstall the device driver for the network card.
Step 2
Configure Network Settings
- Open control panel and navigate to "Networking and Sharing Center".
- In the left pane of this window, click on "Manage Network Connections".
- Right Click on "Local Area Connection" and choose "Properties".
- In the properties box, highlight "Internet Protocol Version TCP/IPv4 and choose "Properties".
- Click the box "Use the following IP address" and enter the IP address, subnet mask and gateway for that computer and site per the "Site IP #Address Table Allocation Listing". The link to this page is located on the PTOC O&M Web Tools Page along
- Reboot computer and verify that the connection is on the internet.
Step 3
Configure Firewall Settings
- In the lower right corner of the task bar, right click on the "Windows Security Alerts icon and choose to "Open Security Center"
- In the upper left hand pane of this window, click on "Windows Firewall"
- In the right pane of this window, click "Change Settings".
- Clcik the radio button that indicates "Turn off Windows Firewall (Not Recommended).
- Click apply then OK.t
- At this point, check to see if the computer will browse the internet and then run a diagnostic test from Minimon to ensure that the system will effectively submit data files.
