Objective
To describe the installation and implementation of the Watch Guard Mobile User VPN Client. To allow users remote access to internal servers and secure routes to data collections computers used in the PTAGIS program.
Scope
This document outlines the limits of the VPN client and also describes the how to determine if the client is actually running and connected correctly to the tunnel.
Responsibilities
It will be the responsibility of the end user that needs the application to ensure that it works properly and assumes all risk if the installation is botched and creates undesirable operation of the PC that it is installed on.This procedure assumes that the user has some degree of technical knowledge of installing and operating VPN client applications.
Procedure
Where to get the WG Mobile VPN Client
- Contact the system administrator in the Portland office at 503.595.3100. Retrieve the latest version of the installation(MuvpnLite73.exe)
- The System administrator will assign a user name and password for the end user and effectively configure the Secure VPN Client. This file is a seperate license key unique to the individual and will be required for access through the secure tunnel.Example:Ujane.wgx
Install the Application
- Run the MuvpnLite73.exe application and follow all instructions per the installation routine. It is recommended that you install the application on a computer running Window's XP Pro or equivalent, but it is not necessary. Refer to the application documentation for minimum system requirements.
- At the end of the installation, the application will prompt you for the location of the Shared Key, the .WGX file that was created specifically for the user doing the install.Use the browse to navigate to the files location.
- The application will then ask you to reboot your system.
- After the reboot, the Watch Guard Policy Import box will appear and application will then prompt you for your password that was used when creating the .WGX file.Note:During the initial installation, you will be required to enter the password. After you have successfully logged in and the tunnel has been established, you will not have to enter this again.
- If successful to this point application will then respond "You are ready to use the Tunnel at any Time. This is no guarantee the tunnel is active and has established a secure connection.
- Right click on the Watch Guard Icon and open up the Log Viewer. You should see activity as displayed in the below picture. This in a good indication that installation was successful and that you have established a secure tunnel.
TroubleShooting the Connection
- At this time, there is no real good and effective way of determining what is wrong if the install does not work. This installation is known to be problematic and at times a 50/50 bet whether you be successfull.
