SbyC Sites PLC DH485 to Ethernet Upgrade Project
From PTAGISWiki
Contents |
Synopsis
The objective of this project is to bring the SbyC sites PLC communication technology up to a modern level that will facilitate a smoother transition to future SbyC programs.
Currently the PLC communicates to the SbyC program Multimon via serial. The PLC will be upgraded to an Ethernet capable PLC. Until an Ethernet cable SbyC system is available the PLC will still communicate via serial to Multimon. The PLC also communicates to peripheral devices known as HMI's (Human Machine Interface). Currently the PLCs at each site communicate to each HMI via a DH485 network. These HMI's will be replaced with Ethernet capable units and the DH485 network will be removed.
Remote access to the HMI and the PLC is an added benefit to this upgrade.

Issues
Recommendations for Future Enhancements
Accessing the PLC locally and remotely is key to being productive and reliable.
Local PLC Access
In order to access each PLC locally the following needs to be in place.
- RSLogix500 and RSLinx must be loaded on a local machine or you must have a Laptop with you with the afore mentioned programs loaded on it.
- There must be a copy of your license file on the local machine (associated with a RSLogix500 S/N) or on your LT and you must have your dongle plugged into the machine.
Remote PLC Access
- You must have RSLogix500 and RSlinx loaded on your office desktop.
- There must be a copy of your license file on your desktop(associated with a RSLogix500 S/N) and you must have your dongle plugged into the machine.
- The PLC that you are trying to access must be Ethernet capable. (i.e. SLC 5/05, Micrologix 1100)
- The LAN that the PLC resides on must be behind the PTAGIS firewall.
