9/28/05 Email posting to sitescape forums

[http://support.sitescape.com/forum/support/dispatch.cgi/_help_admin/showHelp/page/help/en/admin_tabs/zoneadmin_tabs/manage_email_posting.html Sitescape's documentation on setting up email posting]. I had to create a new forum that would manage requests for user support that come in via email.

  1. The easy part was creating the forum in sitescape. I called it "user

support" and made it a help desk forum.

  1. I had to use a webtool to create the pop account that would be

attached to the forum. http://admin.psmfc.org/mk_ptagis_pop/ Add Forum Account I used the name sef_ptagis_support # Setup posting via email within sitescape forum The best document that describes this is at: blueback:/usr/pit/pittag/doc/Web_Development/PTAGIS_SiteEventsForum_Setup.doc The main two steps are:

    1. Manage zone, Manage incoming e-mail settings Here you add a pop

account and add a corresponding alias

    1. Visit the new forum (in this case User Support), click on Tools >

Administration > Manage e-mail postings to this forum (verify that the access control allows registered users to create new entries via email or you may not have the option associate the alias) Here, associate the email alias to this forum and describe how it should handle the incoming messages. In this case, the settings were,
Alias: ptagis.support@ptagis.org
Destination folder: user support
Command: Add a new case
Subject search string:
Under Manage reply posting: Post as new topic

  1. For the forum (User Support, in this case) visit Set forum access

control View "Manage by rights" if it isn't already the view. Find the column for "Create entries via e-mail" and click all boxes in that column to allow everyone to post to this forum via email.

  1. Test the configuration by sending an email from an email address that

is not registered with sitescape to the alias address (ptagis.support@ptagis.org). The schedule for picking up POP mail is every 10 minutes.
